ABOUT
Gina Bella is a rising star in the Perth music scene. Being a multi-instrumentalist, she is the captain of her own ship in every way. From the songwriting to arranging, playing, producing, recording and even to the mixing, Gina is in complete control of her sound at every stage. Her style is heavily influenced by soul and R&B, with a few jazz inflections thrown in for good measure.
Originally born in Zimbabwe, Gina's upbringing was shared between her birth country and Perth, Western Australia. She studied classical piano under the tutelage of her grandmother from the age of 5 and her parents' migration to Australia afforded her the opportunity to learn an array of other instruments, which she initially taught herself and later took some lessons for. She hasn't been able to put her instruments down ever since. If there's something she can't yet play, she'll give it a shot for sure!
After dabbling in most contemporary band instruments throughout her teens, Gina chose to study Composition and Music Technology at WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts) in order to expand her knowledge and skillset. It was here that she fell in love with jazz composition and arranging and dedicated the final year of her Honours degree to writing a thesis on the arranging techniques of infamous jazz arranger, Bill Holman.
With such an eclectic cultural and musical background, Gina draws inspiration from all over. You'll often catch her listening to John Mayer, Gypsy Kings, Frank Sinatra and Frank Ocean one after another.
Her debut EP, "Moving On," released in April 2022, draws influence from various styles of music and carefully pieces them together to make a completely new sound that somehow feels familiar. Gina has loads of music in the pipeline and will be releasing singles right the way through 2023.
